Healthy Futures and Friends of the Earth's Act on Climate (Vic) campaign have urged the Victorian opposition to pass strengthened climate laws for our state.
We have hand-delivered an open letter to Mary Wooldridge MP—Shadow Minister for Health and Leader of the Opposition in the upper house—signed by sixteen health organisations and twenty-three health experts, calling on the Liberal-National Coalition to support action on climate change and to allow the Victorian Climate Change Bill 2016 to pass through the upper house.
The Victorian Climate Change Bill 2016 is a crucial piece of legislation that will legislate a net-zero emissions target by 2050. It will require governments to set emissions reduction targets every five years, as well as climate adaptation action plans for each sector of our economy.
Given health organisations and health experts have sent a clear message to the Coalition in Victoria that allowing this bill to pass is critical to protecting public health, we believe the Victorian public deserve to know how the Coalition votes on climate change laws.
We want to buy an ad in Ms Wooldridge's local Leader paper to inform the community about how the Coalition voted on the Climate Change Bill 2016.
If the Coalition votes in favour of the Bill, our ad will thank them for supporting action on climate change and protecting health. If they vote against it, we will make it abundantly clear what this means for our climate and our health.
To buy an ad in the Whitehorse Leader next week, we need $1,000 stat. Can you chip in to help us tell Victorians how the Coalition is voting on climate change and how it affects our health? All donations are tax-deductible.
